“That Cork County Council would encourage all roadside traders to observe the requirements of SI 191 of 2004 with regard to the selling of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, blackberries, loganberries, tayberries, currants and new potatoes during May to September inclusive. Equally, that Cork County Council would encourage the selling of a greater range of fruit and vegetable produce than those specified in the Regulations in designated market areas and in accordance with a Casual Trading Licence. All opportunities for genuine growers to maximise the sale of their produce are welcome insofar as they do not place rate-paying shopkeepers at unfair disadvantage.”

My Notice of Motion to a meeting of full Council, 13 July 2015
Motion: That State job activation measures should be available to all who are unemployed, not only to those on the Live Register. That if passed, this motion would be circulated to all local authorities in the country.
Text of my introduction:
A person who is unemployed can be entered on the Live Register only if that person qualifies under a means test and is in receipt of social welfare payments. If an unemployed person fails the means test, he or she is not registered as unemployed with the Department of Social Protection.
Japanese knotweed
If I told you that a female alien had come down from space, was self-propagating and gradually invading the earth, what would you say? That as it grew and multiplied, it would gradually kill off our grasses, ferns, buttercups, daisies, nettles. It would kill off the butterflies, ladybirds and the familiar insects which depend on those plants. It would knock walls, damage paving, cause erosion of riverbanks and flood defence structures, it would destroy archaeological sites and it would attack homes. Would you say that I was losing the run of myself?
Because right now, that is what is happening!

Cllr D’Alton (Ind): Requests amendment in relation to her convent motion of last week. The Council identified the property as dangerous and has written to the company’s receivers to ask permission with a view to gaining voluntary access to the property in order to examine it.
MDO: It hasn’t been defined as dangerous because we need to get on site to do the examination first. But the rest will be noted.

Social Housing Strategy 2020 – not on the agenda but summary of progress is distributed: Social Housing Strategy 2020
CE summarises.
Cllr O’Grady (SF): 138 unfinished estates in the county. Referred to a previous motion. There are 673 housing units empty at the moment that could be utilised. None of those has yet come to the Council. Will we take a multi-faceted and integrated approach? We should be pursuing NAMA and NARPS to fast-track these units. Almost 5,500 families looking at these unfinished estates who bought their houses in good faith, expecting to live in pleasant surroundings. They are being forgotten about as well.
NRA proposals for planting/screening along the N40
The NRA undertook significant work on the trees on the N40 South Ring Road earlier this year. This resulted in many of the trees being removed.
The NRA has now proposed treatment of the area where the tree removal took place.
