Ongoing liaison with the gardai, elected representatives and community on the local Joint Policing Committee
Joint Policing Committees were a concept drawn up by legislation in 2005. Their aim is to harmonise policing in the community with the community.
They are made up of garda officers, local elected representatives, members of the Oireachtas for the area and members of the community. The JPC meetings are open to the public.
It was beneficial being a member of the Passage West JPC. Not merely did it provide first hand information about crime statistics in our area and the gardai’s efforts with regard to particular topics of concern, it also allowed a forum in which stakeholders within various sectors of the community could work directly with the gardai in improving any issues of concern.
