Fight for a reduction in Local Property Tax when water charges are introduced

The fund from Local Property Tax is already contributing to the set-up of Irish Water, Ireland’s new water utility company.  This is totally contrary to the ethos behind the set up of the tax.

While local authorities produced and distributed water, it might have been considered reasonable that we were financially contributing to this cost through payment of our Local Property Tax.  But now that the production and distribution systems have been transferred to Irish Water, it is only fair that that the water charges which will be imposed on us will be used for the upkeep and upgrade of the water production and distribution systems.  Logically, the rate of Local Property Tax will be commensurately reduced.
